On February 13, 2012, Lifesaving Awards were presented to Mercedes Eke and Kali Arnzen of rural Sauk Centre for their actions on December 29, 2011 on Fairy Lake in Southern Todd County. The two teenagers were skating on the ice when they witnessed an ATV go through the ice. They then immediately contacted emergency personnel via cell phone 911. Travis Ritter operated the ATV, also of rural Sauk Centre. Ritter’s 3-year-old son, Gaberial was a passenger on the ATV. The two were able to pull themselves up onto the ice; there were no reported injuries. Eky and Arnzen were very helpful in rescuing the Ritter’s from the freezing water.
