Police Departments in Wadena, Staples and Little Falls are investigating an incident of identity theft and check forgeries reported throughout the month of March. The checks were written under the identity of Mathew Kasper of Little Falls on a US Bank account. The checks that were forged were from an old account Kasper closed approximately one year ago. One check was issued to NAPA in Wadena with the purchases of a Chicago ¾ drive pnuematic wrench, a Chicago ½ drive pnuematic wrench and an ATD torque wrench on March 7; totaling the check to $662.59. The suspect later attempted to return the tools at the NAPA Store in Long Prairie. On March 14 the suspect purchased a Husqvarna chainsaw at the True Value Hardware store in Staples and again attempted to pass another check to the NAPA Store in Pierz, MN. A description of the suspect is described as a 30-35 year-old male, balding or very short hair wearing a cap. The suspect’s vehicles are said to be a blue Ford Focus, a 1998 BMW with Minnesota License displaying 555-HPD or a red Plymouth Neon.
