For those who don’t plan on going to jail in their lifetime, here are some tips to help you out; don’t drink and drive, don’t possess any illegal drugs and don’t commit murder. Sure, we all know these simple precautions, but let me add another word of advice; make sure your siding on your house is properly displayed. For a Burnsville, MN man, this citation became jail time. Mitch Faber of Burnsville was taken into custody in November 2011 when Burnsville leaders ruled Faber failed to properly put up siding. Mitch and his wife Jean received a warning letter in 2007 from Burnsville leaders that they must complete the siding on their house. They also received another two letters in 2009 and one in 2010. Faber said they had every intention of fixing the siding but ran low on funds due to the economy. With all the warning letters Faber was given an ultimatum; finish the siding or go to jail. A little more steep then a normal housing maintenance citation fined as $100-$500, depending on the severity. Once given the ultimatum, Mitch and Jean spent around $12,000 in stucco façade to finally end the issue. But soon after, a warrant for Mitch’s arrest was issued when the city noted Faber failed to turned himself in, because his house was still not up to code. After Mitch spent two days in jail, a judge released Mitch from custody under the terms that he would submit to electronic home monitoring. In Dakota County, any crime an individual commits and is placed under this process is required to blow into a drug and alcohol device every time the alarm goes off. Mitch had something to say about the whole scenario as he questioned, “What did you accomplish?”
