An Alexandria man will attend an omnibus hearing on Thursday for charges involving multiple residential burglaries. Cody Eugene Pederson, 28, is facing 20 counts involving burglary, criminal damage to property, child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a child. Five burglaries were reported in the North Darling and Scenic Heights area in northeast Alexandria on February 17 and March 1. The first incident was reported on Cherry Lane Court NE, Alexandria where a new house was being built. According to the complaint, the burglar entered the home by breaking a basement window. The damages reported in the home were estimated at $5,500. An investigation throughout the home discovered several cabinet doors ripped off their hinges, holes found in the walls, a window and some walls spray-painted black and other damages as well. Officers outside the home located two sets of shoe prints. One was a smaller print thought to be made by a child. A second incident on March 1 was reported on South Darling Drive NW, Alexandria at around 8:20 p.m. Damages exceeded $1,000, with damages to a dishwater door, living room appliances, along with other damage. Officers also found a broken jewelry box that appeared to have been gone through. While investigating the scene, officers yet again found two sets of footprints in the snow, one belonging to a child. Officers followed the footprints and soon learned two other homes on Darling Drive had been broken into. Extensive damages to both the houses were reported. Another attempted break-in was also reported at another home. The following day, officers returned to the South Darling Drive area and located a small boy’s shoe along the trail of footprints. Two days after the burglaries, police received information that Pederson was the one who committed the burglaries. Pederson is accused of bringing his girlfriend’s 10-year-old son along with him on the burglaries. The mother confirmed that the shoe found belonged to her son. Pederson was taken into custody on March 9, where he remains in custody at the Douglas County Jail. His bail was set at $60,000 in cash or $600,000 bond with conditions.
