Major reparations of the Staples-Motley water tower begin this week.
The estimated $600,000 project will feature interior and exterior structural repairs, paint removal, including some that is lead-based, and a new paint job.
The goal of the project, which is scheduled to run from late March through early July, is to bring the tower into compliance with the American Water Works Association and Occupational Safety Hazard Administration.
The water must be drained from the tower in order to complete the renovations. That will take place at the conclusion of April.
The quality of the water will remain unaffected during the project, but the City of Staples asks that residents be mindful of water consumption use this spring.
