A Staples man lost control of his vehicle due to slush Monday morning. According to reports, David Deyoung was west bound on County Road 7 at the intersection of 277th Ave when he lost control of his 1996 Jeep SUV as it slid over the slush covered roadway. Deyoung slid off the road way left and was then struck broadside by a east bound vehicle that had swerved off the roadway to avoid the head-on collision. Ryan Kuklok of rural Cushing was the other driver involved in the crash. Reports state Kuklok, driving a 2005 GMC Pickup, was driving east bound on County Road 7 when he noticed the SUV out of control, he then drove off the roadway to the right and collided with the Jeep as it was entering the ditch. The Jeep over-turned after the collision occurred. There were no passengers with either of the drivers, but both vehicles are said to be a total loss. Deyoung was taken to the Lakewood Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The Staples Fire Rescue assisted at the scene.
